Saturday's rain band will slowly clear south-eastwards overnight and Sunday, with drier conditions following as a ridge of high pressure builds but there will still be a few showers dotted around.

Monday and Tuesday will have similar conditions with bands of frontal rain interspersed with ridges of high pressure delivering brief drier periods. A more substantial frontal system looks probable on Wednesday, bringing some heavy rain and strong winds, and this should mark a change to much chillier weather in the second half of the week.

Temperatures will fall closer to the February average but we are not expecting any substantial cold. Friday should have a showery westerly flow, and further showers or more persistent rain are likely at the weekend, some heavy, with sleet or snow over high ground. They will mainly be in the northern UK. Some rather strong and gusty winds are possible at times.
